Grammar: reported speech

When you report the things people sat, the verb tense often “shifs back”.

Direct speech                                                       Reported speech.

0- José Arias:                                                     he said (that).
1- my goas is to destroy all my car.                   his goal was to destray all his car
2- i want to bary them underground.                 he wanted to bury them underground
3- my mother gave me a alligator coat.             his mother had given hima alligator coat.
4- i haven’t found the right shopping center.    he hadn’t found the right shopping center.
5- i have been making a new hause.               he had been making a new hause.
6- sarai:                                                              she said (that).
7- i can’t throw any thing away.                         she couldn’t throw any thing away.
8- meybe i’ll stop buying somuch stuff.             maybe she would stop bwing so much stuff.

how good are you at managing your money?

- if you answer no to more than fire questions, than you might need to do something to get things under contra.

1- do you have a monthly budget and stick to it?
2- do you keep track of haw much you spend each week?
3- do you give your self an allowance for special “treats”?
4- do you pay all your bills on time
5- do you set a side money each moth in a savings account?
6- do you have a bank account that pays good interest?
7- do you invest money in relible stocks and bands?
8- mave you put enough maney away for “a rainy day”?
9- do you pay in cash or by check to avoid charging too much to a creedit cord?
10- when you borrow maney from Friends or family, do you pay it back right away?
11- if you took out a loan, would you pay it off as son as you caild?
12- if you got in to debt, would you know how to get out of debt?

Strategy plus
You can use words like Uh-oh! And Oops! When something goes wrong.

Ooh!                                                  = (when you see a problem)
Uh-oh!                                               = (when you suddenly discover a problem)
Oops! / Whoops!                               = (when you make a small mistake)
Ow / Ouch!                                        = “that hurt”. / “it sound like that hurt”
Ugh! / Yuck!                                       = “it’s disgusting”
Shoot!                                                = “Oh, no” (a general reaction)
