When we talk hypothetically using the Past Perfect we talk about something from the past, but that did not happen. - Form Use the Perfect form in the If clause: If  + Past Perfect Use the Past Modal in the main clause: Past Modals Would Have, Could Have, Might Have, Etc. -  Some examples; If  she had studied, she would have passed the exam.
